I am a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario in Cobourg, Ontario - part of the lovely Northumberland County. You can go to Profile for information about me and my background. My understanding of therapy and the basis of my practice is outlined in My Philosophy.
I find that stress is a huge issue in our society. I believe that there are two ways to deal with stress – you can lower the external stressors as much as possible, or increase your ability to withstand the stress. I work at both levels with people. I find out what you need and how you best deal with stress rather than imposing a ‘one size fits all’ model. We have a lot of tools at our disposal.
Many people have experienced trauma in their lives. Counselling can help tremendously with the residue of trauma. The suffering can go on long after the trauma has ended. I do a lot of work with clients on issues of trauma and a more detailed description can be found by going to the My Work section, under the heading Therapy.
Other issues that clients bring to my office are:
A separate area of my work is in clinical consultation for therapists doing EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) – a trauma treatment that I have been using with clients since 2003. A more complete description of these consultation services can be found under Consultation in the ‘My Work’ section.
The Tips section has some ideas, and articles related to common issues that people face.
If you would like to look at the ‘Resources’ you will find books and website links that I recommend. There is information on many topics of interest such as anxiety, parenting, relationships, health etc. And finally, where can you find me? All my Contact information is listed, with a map, on the last page.
